some recs
AUs

Dearest, by Lavvyan. Slash, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay. (ca. 4,200 words)
The people with the ATA gene are regarded as pets in this AU, though then it turned somewhat atypical for slave/mindcontrol fic (and has a sad ending), but it still worked for my kinks.

After Such Knowledge, by Sarah T. Het, Michael/Teyla Emmagan. (ca. 7,500 words)
This is an AU of Michael's storyline, with the premise that Michael chose to remain human because Teyla was more honest with him.

Sequelae, by The Spike. Gen, John Sheppard, Rodney McKay, Jennifer Keller. (ca. 26,000 words)
It's a futurefic that goes AU during Adrift, though the past of how Atlantis was lost and the cause of the rift in John and Rodney's friendship is only gradually revealed, as John suddenly shows up at Rodney's doorstep, having a retrovirus relapse.

Pegasus Ascendant, by Tielan. Gen, Teyla Emmagan. (ca. 1,830 words)
Pegasus is without Wraith and various Pegasus people share control over Atlantis as the Earth expedition makes contact. I find the premise here very cool, though I wished there was more than this opening. I'm definitely hoping for a sequel.

crossovers

Only Someone Running, by busaikko. Slash, Rodney McKay/Brendan Dean. (ca. 7,800 words)
Stargate: Atlantis/Thoughtcrimes
This crossover has awesome plot twists, and meshes the two universes well. It is rather sad though.

On the Use of Weapons, by Cofax. Gen, Ellen Harvelle. (ca. 1,600 words)
Supernatural/Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In this snippet Ellen observes Sarah, John and Cameron at a gun show, and it gives a great outsider POV of the three.

Also when I asked on the SGA genrefinder comm for stories with Sheppard as an Ancient or Sheppard ascending, I compiled a list of stories in that genre I had already come across, so I thought I might just as well repost that list on my website as reference. Here's a link collection with stories featuring John Sheppard as Ancient, Ori or Ascended. If you come across any I missed, let me know.

Hmm, does Uncanny Valley count?

I admit I haven't reread it because it was so very depressing, but the way I remember the story an Ancient was kind of body sharing with John, then left him and John became brain damaged shell? So I thought of that as more along the line of him being possessed by some Ancient rather than John being an Ancient himself. However if you count think of the story as John being Ancient I'll include it.

Well, I asked because I wasn't sure. It doesn't quite fit into any of your categories per se (I would said that John was an Ancient, then he wasn't anymore), but, on the other hand, it seems like the kind of story that people reading that sort of list would probably find within that range of interests. Obviously I will not be offended either way!

Okay, since it can be seen that way too, I'll include it.

...also, I really think there was a Brighid Stone short out there with John ascending, but damned if I can find it.

(Why aren't there any Teyla ascending stories? Let's be honest, of the whole lot of them, she's probably the closest...)

I think it's maybe because she doesn't have the gene?

And I'd totally put that story in there, because it hits the same kink so to speak.... fwiw, ratcreature.

Also, our tastes really do align somewhat perfectly. The one story i wasn't certain i'd read and memoried I totally had loved and put on my rec list already :)

Right, you have a themed rec set along these lines.

Though thematic lists are somewhat different after all, I mean,in those I'll include awful stories as long as they fit after all.

Oh yes...I know, and I'm glad both types exist.

My rec list is a bit more inclusive, but fwiw, I think harriet_spy's story might indeed be close enough to fit in yours.

But I actually meant our twin minds when looking at your AU recs :)

I suspect the lack of Teyla-ascension stories may be because many of these stories seem to see ascension as somehow biologically linked to the ATA gene, hence you get ascension stories with John, Carson and Rodney. Which doesn't make that much sense, since not just are the Asurans trying for ascension and they don't have genes at all being machines, but also afaik Daniel doesn't have the ATA gene either but still ascended.

As for Brighid's story, I think you may be thinking of "Here In This Lonely Place"? But I don't have a working link for that after the LJ went f-locked. I've been looking periodically to link it again frommy AU recs page.

Oh, thank you for the lovely rec. That story, which I wrote almost as a throwaway, has gotten a surprising amount of traction...

You're welcome. I think it's that lots of people really like to see these two shows crossed.
