Notes/comments: Some time ago I drew a bowtruckle supposed to look like an excerpt from an old book about magical creatures from the HP universe. I wanted to do more in this style and did a poll which creature I ought to draw next. The red cap got two votes, all others either zero or one (it wasn't a popular poll, heh), so here it is. Admittedly my turn around time isn't exactly fast. I also have to give credit to [info]amelia_eve for suggesting a title for this imaginary work, because I couldn't come up with anything, and she commented with several options in the bowtruckle post.

I love this. These.

His face is wonderfully expressive, especially the nose warts.

And I've been looking at this for a long time, and it's just now occurred to me that THAT IS A FEMUR, ewwwww. :D :D :D

Thank you! I'm so glad you like it. And yeah, it is a femur. The description said they live in holes on battlefields where human blood had been spilled, and would bludgeon muggles to death, so it seemed natural to me that Red Caps would use bones for this.

Sooo gorgeous! Totally like out of an old fairy tail book, I love all the detailing and linework, it's amazing to look at and enjoy and realize that someone I know did it. Hee. I think that's one of the best parts. \o/

Thanks for the detail shot - I love the eyes and eyebrows. So much life and fantastical elements!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. And flattered that you like the linework because I'm so out of practice with ink crosshatching (and was never all that good at it to begin with, lol). I just had no choice if I wanted it to look like an old print.

That's, er, horrid. Good horrid. Red Caps always sounded nasty creatures. This one has fleabitten ears and is mildly cross-eyed... Great stuff.

I've just followed the link to the bowtruckle, which I really love. Hadn't seen it before. Must keep an eye out in case you do more. (directed here from hogwarts_today)

Thank you, I'm glad you found and liked both. :) And yeah, red caps sound very unpleasant, especially for us muggles! *g*

Unfortunately as you can see from the months between the two drawings I'm not fast or prolific, but I usually announce to newsletters, and I tag before I post, so people can get email notifications for specific things they are interested in. So you can track my "fanart: magical creature" or the "fanart: hp" tag and will get an email when I do another one (and I actually do have a list and want to do a couple more eventually). </end self-promo>
